    Silent Admirers?

Over the last few weks, I’ve noticed a strange occurrence; an unusual amount of silent guests and members in my free chatroom on Streamate. My first thought was that this might have been the result of some glitch, preventing members from being able to use the chat interface. I was quick to discover (through the wonderful world of social networking platforms and forums) that this was indeed happening to others, as well. I’m not just referring to guests but actual members who have actually purchased premium videochat time in the past. Guys who normally wouldn’t hesitate to issue a standard greeting, at the very least, upon entering my chatroom, were now completely silent. They’d enter, stick around for a few minutes and then leave, without a single word typed in the chat. Odd behavior and this had nothing to do with what I was wearing, the current state of the economy, how the stars aligned with the moon and planets or any number of other excuses one might conjure up.

It’s not just members but also guests that enter the chatroom and leave about 5 seconds later. Again, quite odd. They usually stay longer than this and when I try to get a conversation going with the ones who do stick around longer, they leave. Again, without a word. So few actually used the chat. This is just very strange. Really out of the norm.

I suppose one could offer a vast variety of reasons a person might enter a chatroom and not type anything, and I’ve already gone over all that in my mind but it just doesn’t make sense when you look at the vast change lately in the volume of those who don’t use the chat or leave after 5 seconds, as opposed to just 3 months ago. What I’m looking for is a reason why a whole bunch of guys would all choose to do this at the same time. There is no logic to this whatsoever. There is no pattern to tell me this could even remotely be explainable. A glitch, perhaps? They don’t return to tell me so. Could it be that they are restricted somehow from returning? I have no messages telling me that either. Could it be that they think it’s their connection (they often think it’s them, even when it’s not) and just complacently walk away? Why don’t they return right away? Why don’t they return another day to tell me then? What the hell is going on?

My Pick for the Stanley Cup Finals!

The L.A. Kings have not yet won a Cup. Martin Brodeur has 3. Brodeur loves to shut out Montreal, in Montreal. On that note, and out of respect for the goaltender (Patrick Roy), let’s keep Marty away from breaking (or nearing) yet another one of Roy’s records. Yes, I’m being a bit of a shmuck here but hey, that’s what sportsmanship is all about!
    May the best team win!

The BB Men (if I must!)

This is a perfect example of what I like to refer to as “the BB men”. The BB men are those guests who come into free chat with nothing to offer except compliments, of course followed by a request to see something (for free) before they decide to take you private. In the real world, we call these people “mooches”; people who are always looking for something for nothing. At first glance, they appear to be normal guests, with handles that don’t offer any type of warning about what to expect (ie: JoeyWantsFreePussy), and they may even act like a normal guest by being nice. It isn’t long before they show their true colors.

I don’t truly believe this to be just a random guest who decided to be an asshole. I believe this to be my harrasser, once again, playing their games. Honestly though, who would believe me? The first thing people ask is “Why?” “Why would someone choose to waste their time to harrass you? What would they gain from it?”. Well, if you’ve been following my blog, you would know the answer. It would be as painfully clear to you as it is to me. Sometimes, they have company, other times, they go it alone. Tonight, clearly they were alone.

Thankfully, every time the asshole enters, there are 2,000 nice guys to make this job worth my time and effort. Have a read and see how the flow of conversation otherwise went, with actual members, not game players whose purpose is to get me offline. Then, look at the one asshole determined to ruin whatever fun I could be having with my members and guests. Unsuccessfully, I might add but try as they might, they are fresh out of ideas for how else to drive me offline. Poor idiot.

4 Steps To Becoming a Complete Asshole

Step #1 – Enter chatroom and ask common questions pertaining to what happens in the show, leaving the impression that you are actually interested. Pretend to be just another member. Toss in $2.00 Gold, just for good measure.

Step #2 – Use as few words as possible to describe what you saw for $2.00 Gold. Try to be rude but not necessarily insulting. The word “boring” would be a good example.

Insert needle into ass and use muscles to hold it there. Keep pressure on anus for as long as humanly possible, throughout this process. Continue onto step #3.

Step #3 – Take model private. Yes, that is correct. Use a bitter tone and tell her what to do, as though she is your own personal slave. Snap at her as though she is your inferior. You are greater than her. The irony never ceases to amaze me; how one can look down on others for what they do, yet continue to support that industry (and in many cases, sit on the thrones of that very same industry they look down on).

Step #4 – After wasting a few dollars on both Gold contributions and an extremely short private session, do exactly what she expects from an asshole, such as yourself; give her the lowest rating possible.

The thing with this person is … it was apparent he rated me a 1 in his mind before he ever went private. He only went private to rate me a 1. Why? Let’s assume for a moment that this was an actual member who gets his thrills being bossy and rude to girls. Maybe he works a popsicle stand all day and needs someone to take his frustrations out on. There was nothing I could have done to please this one. I saw this more as someone with an agenda, trying to send my ratings down the scale. It makes more sense to me that this is the case. I’ve seen a lot in this industry and have encountered plenty of guys with fetishes and this behavior is not common of those types. They usually ask upfront for me to be submissive and ‘play along’. Then, there are the types that take a more real approach and allow the real emotions come out. Often, they get booted, sometimes just told off. This one didn’t stick around for the joy ride. His one and only goal was to rate me a 1 and make it look as legit as possible. Well, thanks to the simplicity of the system which allows the ratings to be done so easily and fast, his mission was accomplished. What would eventually happen is an algorhythm kicks in and with enough low ratings, starts to send my placement on the main page down further, as a result, giving me less traffic from the site/its whitelabels and wherever I may or may not be advertised. This is the equivalent to a store owner that rents their local from a mall and the mall decides whether or not the store owner gets to be in a high-traffic zone or tucked away into a dark, quiet part of the mall.

Moral of the story: Once an asshole, always an asshole.

Advice to girls with members like this: If  he is an asshole in guest chat and then goes private, expect an even bigger asshole and a low rating too.

    Constant Harrassment Continues …

In red are the posts I want to highlight, to show what I have to deal with on a nightly basis. The harrassment that has been going on for 2 years, that went reported but nothing was done to stop it. I left some normal posts in there, to demonstrate how the flow of conversation went with the regular members and people who are just browsing the site. Those are in blue. My comments are in black.

This handle says it all. Honestly, they didn’t even need to type anything. I would have seen this coming a mile away! One purpose for entering my room. With a little help from my ‘block’ button, their exit was just as fast.

    duhduhduh: 29 years old???????? ummmmmmmmmm

    Jake: Smith

Jake has successfully sent you $10.00 of GOLD.

Jake: La Kings for the cup
    lol
I will be back in a month

I was expecting this, too. It came shortly after the first rude comment, a few lines up.

jdperez310: THIS IS NOT THE CHICK FROM THE PIC WHY DO THE STUPID CHICKS ALWAYS DO THAT

    Jake: and see who wins
I swear this is LA’s year
Habs will be a scary team next year
if they fix some of the kinks in their team

    Papito: slt bb

    Jake: Yep.
    Yes.

Rape, as well as rape fantasies are illegal. I guess it would be important to note that every time the assholes are present in my room, there are one or two comments or questions pertaining to illegal activities, usually in the form of a question, trying to see if I would bite. This game is old, as are all of their attempts.

Doosty: You’re delectable! Are you insanely perverted as well?? I ask because I am. I wanna tie you up. You do rape fantasies? :-D

Jake: Home in Montreal was amazing to
    ya

brooksplace: women after my own heart GO HABS

Jake: THeir away games were bad

His game didn’t work. Frustrated and angry, he leaves. I’m retarded because I will not fulfill his need to get me to perform an illegal act on cam. Remember, the assholes are still in my room. There is no question in my mind that this one belongs to that mob.

Doosty: no it’s not. and now I just think you’re dumb. That’s why it’s a fantasy. Way to be fucking retarded. late

    Jake: Remember me
I will be back to check in when the Kings win the next series
    and NY loses tomorrow

    lawofdanger: Hey
    no music

Jake: Ok awesome nice chatting with you

lawofdanger: Do you like black guys?

Jake: Have a good night! Go Kings!

Here’s the one that pretends to be black when he comes in to harrass me. I’ve noticed he does this to try and get some kind of rise out of me or provoke me to say something that he can take, twist and have it look as though I made a racist comment. His next move would be to report that to Streamate to try and get my account suspended. Obviously failing every time because I don’t have a racist bone in my body. He also mentions giving Gold but never does. Their purpose is to get me offline. They have told me this before, point blank to “stay offline”. If you look at the various videos displayed in the search engine results for an “amanda36c videos” query, you’ll find plenty of sites that have stolen and are using my videos to earn money. These are recent videos, as well as old videos. Whois shows the owners all hidden under monikers but I know who they are. There is huge money involved with this and it is growing bigger by the day. Since SOPA was shot down, these scumbags are running wild with our content and making big money from the sale of it, without having to pay us a cent. Could this be the reason they want me offline? I do have 13 years worth of content floating around the internet. That’s a hell oof a lot of money owed to me. Imagine a massive class-action lawsuit against these scumbags by someone like me, along with a few thousand other girls that are in the same boat? A lawyer’s dream! The content is being moved around so rapidly and the first sign someone is onto the whereabouts of this content, they close shop and up pops a new one, on another server, days later. It’s a shell game. That is how they continue to get away with it.

    lawofdanger: Lets do gold
    black guys?
I like feet.. let me see!
    yes
    All
    thank you
    lol
well i can but everyone else?
I cant click on your gold

    Jbk3: sweet mic

    downunda: hey hey

lawofdanger: You said the same to you!

    Sincere: :-P

Here’s a beauty. I have few words to describe this. Idiot behavior. There. That’s all I can say.

IFuckedYourSister: CANADUH SUCKS!!!!> FUCK CANADUH!!!! FUCK CANADUH!!!!

    mickael32: french

lawofdanger: Its funny how you are still on this site……
    God bless you! Bye!

Says “bye” but doesn’t leave. What’s his purpose for being here again? Oh right, to comment on how I’m “still on the site” (should I have left the first time you harrassed me?) and then to tell me to do my job? Hmm, if that alien autopsy rendered results from a brain similar to this, it might explain why they haven’t returned to our planet!

    titmanxxx: whats a life ?

    somu: hi

    spidermanfreakk: hi
    good

lawofdanger: How about doing your job BITCH!

titmanxxx: WHY DO YOU HAVE A HUGE MICROPHONE

lawofdanger: Yes but will you accept???

jld109 has successfully sent you $5.00 of GOLD.

Why be so rude? This is no random guest. This is yet another insult from the same asshole that has been harrassing me for over 2 years on Streamate and the last 2 years I worked on iFriends. Same person. Same mentality, same immaturity level, same mannerisms, same everything. The next comment, apparently from a different guest, who later made a rude comment (surprise, surprise!). Note: these guests never go private or exclusive; they just make use my chatroom to harrass me, daily.

handsome: why u look so old

    jeremy: such a milf

Ripcords has successfully sent you $1.00 of GOLD.

    titmanxxx: im touching my screen
    well that was cool

jld109 has successfully sent you $5.00 of GOLD.

Enters my room just to say this? I just can’t picture this asshole morphing into a nice guy at any point that I could actually have a civil conversation with. I see no point in wasting time. Time is money, money pays bills and paid bills equate to less stress.

sandow2026: ugh, clean that canadiens shit out of ur room

    stannex: Just teasin’!
    ;-)

I honestly can’t remember what I said to get a response like this, but what do you do when someone admits to being a “terrorist”? Disturbing indeed, even though he went on to joke about it by saying he had a bomb in his pants. How lightly is this to be taken? Who am I to say? Definitely reporting this but I don’t expect it to be taken seriously, considering the industry, which is forced to police itself because of its detachment from society and the law, apparently. Crimes already run rampant here and noone listens when abuses/threats are reported. I’m kind opf hoping this is for real, so they can wake up, put the guy where he belongs and look a little more closely at this industry. Are the F.B.I. even looking at this industry?

    NickGharibian: yeah im a terrorist

Jerryatric: it’s a perfectly sensible ear

NickGharibian: i got a bomb in my pants

    freddieMac: nice ear shot

NickGharibian: too ahmed what you want me to do about it

Turgenev: Cause I have a feeling they’re not the race they’re insulting.
    You have a harrasser?
    Eeek.

The rest is what a normal chatroom looks like. On the odd occasion, when I’m not inundated with the harrasser and their multiple personalities (via devices), conversations take place in a pleasant atmosphere. Why Streamate does nothing about this, I have a few theories. None which are good.

All you ever do on here is complain about your job, if you hate it so much why don’t you just find something else to do. Wait staff at Denny’s are treated like crap too, but I don’t see them making a blog about it, they just keep working until they can make something better of themselves.

      • amanda36c 3:37 am on May 21, 2012 Permalink | Reply

Firstly, it’s my blog. I don’t know (or care) who you think you are but if you don’t like it, frankly, you can kiss my ass.
Secondly, go educate yourself on the difference between being “treated like crap” and being “harrassed”.
I’ve had to endure harrassment for 4 years (my last 2 years on iFriends and the entire 2 years I’ve been on Streamate). Don’t assume to know how that feels because you’d have to actually walk a mile in my shoes. Was this supposed to be ‘friendly advice’ you’ve decided to post in such a rude manner, to my blog?

The unfriendly tone in which you use toward me, with the advice you try to force upon me, insinuating I should leave the industry, tells me this is more like a veiled threat than friendly advice. Very odd behavior for someone to read my blog and be so controlling of what I say in it. When the average guest reads someone’s blog and doesn’t like it, they stop reading it. They do a little thing called “move on”. It’s really simple. Not your style though, is it? Why’s that?

Let’s lay our cards on the table, shall we? I see your Florida ip and fake e-mail address at NA.com you used when posting to my blog, by the way.

This is your third attempt this week, to tell me to leave the industry. First you harrass me, then you pose as a guest in my chatroom (never using the service, but complaining to me, via e-mail how I was rude to you in free guest chat, when in fact, it was you that was rude to me). Then, another attack, this time in a forum online after I posted a complaint about how my content was stolen and is all over the internet, lining someone’s pockets. You really don’t like the fact that I am speaking out against you. How dare I! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that you have a vested interest in keeping your gigantic (and constantly growing/evolving) secret stash of content-stealing websites hidden and I am reaching out to girls in the industry to stop this (and bring you and your entire fucking empire of porn sites with our content on it) down. I’m exposing you and all you can do is try to discredit me, make me look crazy, paranoid. I’m not though and good luck trying to get people to think I am. I have stood behind everything written in my blog entries. I have backed it all up with screenshots, page saves, archives data, historical records, etc. and if law enforcement ever had the balls to look into this, they would uncover the biggest fraud in the history of the porn industry. Possibly one of the worst cases in history itself. Thirdly, here on my very own personal blog, telling me, once again, that I should do something else (leave the industry). In perfect webpimp style. That’s exactly what you are. And no, I’m not leaving the industry. In fact, I’m going to make damn sure that every chathost you owe money to (myself included) gets every cent you ever stole from them. In case you haven’t learned by now, I’m not backing down. I’m not afraid of you.

    Harrassment Without Consequence

Once upon a time, there was a chatroom. In that chatroom were some people, chatting away and having fun. All of a sudden, out of nowhere came a stench, proceeded by a hateful, rude comment. Gone before I could even get my hand to the mouse to block them! I can’t begin to try to understand their motive for being so rude (Tourette’s, perhaps?), but Einstein said it best; “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”. Honestly, I can’t count the number of times this person entered my room, in the midst of a normal conversation, only to spew their nonsense and then dash off, like the coward that they are. I do not feed into their game or provide them with any response, other than to block them. They should have packed it in long ago, but here they are, night after night, rude as ever. Whatever it is they gain from this, I will never know. Appears to me, this is the behavior of a drunken slob that has too much time on their hands and so little thought as to what to do with it. I could be wrong though; this could be someone who is frustrated as hell because they just can’t seem to get me to, as they once warned me “stay offline”. I would have reported this but complaints in this industry with regards to harrassment, only fall on deaf ears.

While the guests in my room used the chat, I was using audio, so you can’t see what I was saying but there was nothing derogatory coming from my mouth. You can see the flow of conversation and what the guests were saying, in response to what I was saying.

Camgirl Meeting – Part 2: Behind the Scenes

This was originally a response to a comment, but I’d like to put it out there, as its own topic of discussion and gather some opinions on this.

In response to ”uninformed” (welcome to my blog, by the way!), who wrote http://amanda36c.wordpress.com/2012/04/27/camgirl-meeting-date-time-and-place/#comment-644

Thanks for your input, Uninformed. I always enjoy a good discussion about the biz, so here goes; my 2 cents.

You wrote: “No matter what, this is a service industry. I can understand the frustration from the client end. Not that I don’t see the opposite true with very mean people making comments. However, it is a service industry and it is to be expected.”

I understand your point completely and agree to an extent but customer service isn’t so cut and dry in our industry. Having been a part of this as long as I have (15 years), I’ve observed plenty. Here’s my point of view, and you know from which side of the fence this is coming:

Nowhere on earth are workers more a target of verbal abuse than in our industry, in large part thanks to the anonymity of the internet, giving people carte blanche to insult, belittle, degrade, punish, harrass, stalk, pester, impersonate, etc. using internet chatrooms as their own personal playground. Add to the mix now, the nature of what we do which makes us even bigger targets of this behavior because we appear so open-minded, so vulnerable and let’s face it; the adult industry, tucked away in its own little corner of society doesn’t exactly get a lot of support from law enforcement when it comes to the aforementioned behavior, which, in any other workplace, actually carries criminal charges, punishable by law. The simple act of removing our clothes in exchange for money means to forfeit our rights to be treated as an equal in society, especially where human rights are concerned. Or so it seems.

The way I see it, generally speaking, society already looks down upon this industry and everyone in it fits into some assigned stereotype. From the lowest level, the sex workers, to the middlemen webpimps, to the highest level of control, the mob bosses, we all have our little place in this game and unlike chess, there is no pawn-to-queen advancement. It remains controlled by the same entities, the same people, the same attitudes that allow this behavior to continue, with one focus; the almighty buck.

If you can jog your mind back to a time, before you were involved in this industry, do you remember what your initial thoughts of sex workers were, on a whole? Draw a quick conclusion, with as little analysis as possible. Were you  thinking about a brothel, a strip club, peep show, perhaps? Knowing any industry is knowing what lies at the backbone of it. Who is pulling the strings and what motivates them. Who is the big boss and why? In an industry where women are clearly the main attraction, why is it so controlled by men? Why are men the ones making all the money? Not to make this a battle of the sexes, because it really isn’t, but women drive this industry and yet the abuse is all on them. Again though – we reap what we sow, don’t we? We teach others how to treat us.

All that said, I think when it comes to the customer service ideal, we fit into a different category of workers; one that has to police, protect and defend itself. One with little to no rights and at times, admittedly, frustration begins to set in, and I start to question why I put up with a lot of what I do in my chatroom. The “customer comes first” ideal was not created with someone in mind who, as a customer, enters your place of business and barks out rude insults at you and expects you to accept it as par for the course. I have no problem telling people like that exactly where they can shove it, quite frankly.

It’s easy to be on the outside and offer advice to anyone with a problem, but until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes, or have had to endure that  harrassment yourself for 2 years, then just take a backseat and listen. It’s really all you can do.

I consider myself to have a good amount of respect for people but that doesn’t mean I owe anyone a damn thing as far as a customer-oriented attitude in this industry, considering what I receive in return. They set the precedent with their initial treatment of me. I draw mine from there and if my response is anything less than accommodating, well they only have themselves to blame.

In my world, you get what you give and if someone is going to come into my place of business and insult me, I’m going to let him have it. All that “customer comes first” goes right out the window in favor of  “do unto others…” and “you reap what you sow”. If others are present when that happens, so be it. There’s another expression I love to use and that is “you teach others how to treat you”. So, for the others, it’s a lesson in manners. As far as this being a service industry and rudeness in chatrooms are “to be expected”. Does that also mean to be complacent? I don’t buy that at all. Rudeness should not be tolerated. The mindset is this; we allow this behavior, therefore, we accept it. If we accept it, therefore, we encourage it. For me, it’s simple, respect myself or get used to being treated this way all the time.

Interesting thoughts you have on the market. To have a true understanding of the market, without a social sciences degree or the equivalent in some form, the marketer would have to really understand human nature, habits, tendencies, instincts, etc. because we are dealing with people that are from all walks of life, not specific to one occupation, one religion, one race, one age group, etc. I think “etc.” pretty much summarizes my point. I’d have to say that the only people who really know this market are those successful in the industry, with a proven track record. People who have made not only a career in the industry but a name in it, as well. There are innovators, thinkers, who transform everything they touch into something incredibly lucrative. The Donald Trumps of the porn industry are so few and far between though. When I think ‘porn giants’, my mind goes to Hugh Hefner and Larry Flynt. I only know of the big players in the industry because I perform searches and look at stats all the time.
So, in closing on this topic, I believe that it is too vast a market to narrow anything down in terms of marketing. Your niche would determine your market. If you don’t have a niche, everything is open but you’d better have money.

It isn’t as though we’re selling shoes, who we would be targeting women between the ages of 22 and 50, which, hell I may be off because I’m not in, nor have I studied the shoe industry, but I can assume based on what I deem logical, that would be the average age range and gender of the people who buy the most shoes in the world. I have been buying shoes all my life but I could be completely wrong about that. I can’t pretend to know about that industry, so I can’t understand how anyone can pretend to know about this industry, with an even broader market. Even with the current economy the way it is, this market is still thriving. That is a sure indicator of the strength this industry has on a global scale.
Some ways I think the sites could adapt better to the needs of their performers:

From a performer’s standpoint, if the sites would curb their paranoia of the possibility of traffic diversion, long enough to see the benefits in allowing a Twitter button to appear in the girl’s profile page on the site, they would thrive. Perhaps give us a feature that would allow us to promote our shows to existing customers with one simple e-mail message (not have to copy and paste several e-mail account codes to send to x-number of members at a time). If they would just implement some features crucial to promoting our shows, we would have a far better platform that girls would be happy to be a part of. Oh and increasing productivity never hurt any business.

The sites do need to loosen up and allow us girls to interact with members a little more. Their fear of losing customers to traffic-diverting girls is a silly fear that wouldn’t essentially be as harmful in the long term as restricting our communication with these members. If a member really likes a girl, he will drag his ass to Google and perform a search for her there. If she’s the least bit wise, she’ll have a Twitter or Facebook account which will pop up as the first link and voila – he’s found his girl. You have such a great platform? Then you have nothing to worry about in terms of customers returning to the site.

That site you mentioned, Xhamstercams.com is actually owned by FCI (Streamate’s parent company).

HD Cam Display Problems on Tinychat

For cam display problems, here’s how I got my HD camcorder to finally work on Tinychat, after receiving that annoying “camera is in use by another application” error.

    • First, I rebooted my pc.
    •  I grabbed a large-headed hammer … Well, I wanted to anyway.
    • Changed the settings from HD mode to DV and flicked over from 1080 i to 480 i.
    • Turned off the cam and then turned it back on and voila – for the first time, I was never so happy to see my own goofy surprised expression staring back at the cam! Woo hoo!

If you tried this and it doesn’t work, there are other culprits which I’m likely unfamiliar with or programs that are working against you here. You will need to seek assistance elsewhere. I do hope this was helpful though.

Camgirl Meeting – Date, time and place

Looking for cam hosts/models to participate in my Camgirl Videoconference Meeting.

    Date & time:  wednesday, may 2nd, 2012 @ 8:00pm (EST).

    The place: http://tinychat.com/amanda36c

No reservations necessary. Takes seconds to sign up.

    Topics I’d like to discuss:

    • Overall live videochat traffic decline and the possible reasons for it (I have a few theories). Comparing this year’s to last.
    • Have affliiates noticed an increase or decrease in sales/signups over the last year?
    • Comparing commissions. Are the sites offering less commissions (ie: Streamate at 35%) really worth it? As opposed to those offering the higher percentage. Is the lower commission, in general,  justified with a larger paycheck?
    • Tube sites and stolen content. A suggestion for the sharing of information about where our videos are being sold.

I’m constantly checking stats and charts from online reporting facilities such as StatsInternet, Alexa, Compete, Whois, etc. to gather information on these webcam sites. The sites themselves never give us this information. What I’m seeing is a major decline in traffic, as well as camsite value, across the board (with few exceptions). At the same time, there are more and more tube sites opening up every day with our videos on them. The companies that own these are hidden under monikers like Godaddy that protect the slime that are making good money off our content and they’re driving more and more of our traffic to those sites. The thrill of live video has not worn off; the traffic is simply driven to platforms where they don’t have to pay us.  Imagine, for a second, what could happen if we got every cent from everyone selling our content? We’d be loaded. Rich enough to all chip in and form a camgirl site that would blow all the rest of the camsites on the planet right out of the water! Can’t happen if we’re fed just enough to survive, but not enough to thrive. Will never happen if we keep allowing these sites to get away with stealing our content and driving the live cam inustry (OUR industry) into the ground. They are destroying OUR industry, girls. The only power we have is in numbers, but unfortunately, people are too compacent, too fearful, too busy, to give a damn. What surprises me is how surprised people are later when they find out they were robbed blind. Gee, I wonder why!

     Just some food for thought.

      Hi Amanda!

This is a great idea. Thanks for taking the initiative. I’ve got it on my calendar to be there on Wednesday evening, but that’s a busy day with the step-kids, so I’m not 100%.

Let me say, pre-meeting, my BF Pete (computer geek & programmer extraordinaire , web marketing genius, Market Samurai guru & Google Analytics master ) has researched on my behalf the idea of creating our own site. Due to the competition, technical nightmare, financial issues & fraud it doesn’t compute to create our own camming site. Hey, but that’s just us. I’m willing to listen to what you have to say, and if you’d like, share what we found out.

There’s a reason that across the board camming sites pay performers 30-40%. Their costs of doing business make that the portion for paying the performer. They create the environment for us to work, which we do without a care or thought to changing technology, cost of fraud, customer service and the like. If you look at businesses like actual stripping or peep show work, or even being a hairdresser, there are costs associated with the ‘privilege’ of working. Booth rentals, dancer fees, whatever. Our business is no different. If we want to have a large slice of the pie we’re going to have to give up more of our free time. The ease of being on cam, even at just 35% (pre-studio cut) is a heck of a lot better than trying to branch out on our own, sucking up our time with the headaches of running a site ourselves.

Lack of traffic? You know I’ve posted with you before, personally I believe the dip is simply a matter of the sucky global economy and the industry being saturated with cheaper offerings. The biz is changing and we camgirls have to change along with it. Keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.

We need to study what the girls who have 120 ppl in their rooms are doing. Most of the very crowded rooms are not twenty-somethings, though they may claim to be (hee-hee), so that’s it’s not strictly a youth issue. Is it pricing? Gold shows? Not Gold shows? Personality? Types of shows (anal? squirting? ): Huge fake boobs or freakish antics with machinery which belongs in the tool shed? Maybe.

The common thread I see is pleasing personality, being playful and fun loving, gracious , or as much as one can be with these hound-dogs, hee hee. In general huge success is ‘that something special’ that talent agents are always looking for . In studying the successful girls what I’ve noticed is they come across as really, really, really liking men. NOT making them feel like pervs (something wives & GF’s are known for doing, the guys are here to ESCAPE being shamed by women), not correcting their grammar or syntax. Instead treat them more like playful, naughty teenagers. As with any other business, if we want their money we need to give them what THEY want in the way they want it. No different than us shopping in the stores we like because of what they offer and how they treat us.

I’ll be honest, when I’m working and any of the ‘It girls’ come online I can tell because traffic leaves my room to see what those girls are up to. And the girls are very entertaining, so I understand why the guys leave me to go there. There is definitely an ebb and flow to the traffic, depending on which girls are working.

I am practicing what I preach about changing to find a niche. Since beginning this biz 4 years ago I’ve morphed my business to create my ‘specialty’ which is one-on-one personal attention. Specializing in fetish & role play scenarios….I make no judgements and remember it’s JUST fantasy…….and I’ve done lots of research on the harmlessness of sexual fantasies. Another change I’ve made is to make my sessions very personal, asking their names and ‘remembering’ what they requested or what happened in our show so that the next time they stop by I can call them by name (Jim, Mark, Steve, Trevor, not their screen name) and chat & direct our show together toward things which are special to them. Of course this is a lot more work than just doing generic shows, but I am a ‘mature +’ performer so doing generic shows to compete with the young hard bodied hotties is out. I had to create my niche, not just sit in my chair and do what everyone else is doing.

As for stolen videos, I can’t speak to that. I don’t post vids on any sites, and I’m not aware of any videos being captured from my rooms being posted anywhere. If you know otherwise please let me know. So I’m no help with that matter. I do know that iFriends/WebPower was (and probably still is) totally delinquent in security of the site, so that is why I’ve never posted any videos over there. I’ll be interested to hear your discussion on the topic.

OK, that pretty much gives you an idea where I stand, and why I stand there, LOL.
Thanks for putting the meeting together. I hope you get a good turn out. See you Wednesday.

PS: Domain hosting servers like goDaddy can’t be responsible for the content people host on their servers. If a judge says to take something down they will, but monitoring what’s on their servers is not their business, nor should it be. I don’t want them telling me what I can and can’t post on my rented server.

        Hi Joy,

I always enjoy your feedback, and though we do see eye-to-eye on some issues, others I’m fine with agreeing to disagree on. I believe it would serve us all well to listen to others sometimes. That’s the purpose of this meeting; to listen and be heard where major site issues are concerned, where our bottomline is affected. I don’t want to strategize about how to market ourselves. There are a million ways to do that. We all have a pretty good feel, by now, of what works and what doesn’t and since strategy and results differ from performer to performer, perhaps it’d be a good topic for another day, when there’s time to delve into this further.

I want to focus on what has happened to our industry and press on the question of where our content is disappearing to. Since SOPA was turned down, I’ve noticed more and more of our content appearing in untraceable places, under monikers. Like never before. They are stealing content from our live sessions and selling it, Joy. I’m not talking about the content we decide to upload ourselves. You think your video is not being recorded and sold without your knowledge? Try performing a Google search for your handle using the word “videos”/”video” after it (ie: “amanda36c videos”). Look through as many pages as you can. You should recognize the sites you yourself added content to against those that you never heard of. Some are affiliates but some are not. I have one video, for example, a recent one, that is 9 minutes and some odd seconds long, which I did NOT post myself. It was taken from one of my Streamate sessions. Complete nudity and everything, 9 minutes long. This is no “promotional” tease video. Someone is making money off of this and I’m not seeing a dime! This, of course is one tiny example. I have 13 years worth of videos, just like that one, floating around and so is the money that rightfully should be in MY pocket!

Lack of traffic (here’s where we’ll agree to disagree for sure, lol) I would bet has more to do with all the theft going on and traffic being driven to those sites rather than the economy. We’ve all seen the ebbs and flows of the effects of the economy. I saw it first in 2001 (you know what date, exactly). A slight decline again around 2005, then it plummeted in 2008 and no recovery since. Despite my efforts to stay in the game, working it, hustling my assets, evolving with the times, things got tougher.
The less people you have looking in your store window, the harder it is to sell your product. My product was out there, just not in the same place I was. It still is and it’s not in the same place I’m at. You know what I’m saying, right?

I’ve seen the old “economy” excuse used over and over in the old iFriends forums. Every time business was slow, some anonymous hosts would come out with excuses galore, starting with how bad the economy was in its current state, even though we were all full aware of what was going on. It isn’t as though we don’t read the papers or watch the news or have family or friends to tell us these things, or ever step away from the computer long enough to see that the price of gas has gone up again and ask “why?”! Come to think of it, they also used to talk about hackers going around the site like crazy. Every day, girls complained of new hackers. It got so crazy, that, one day I called iFriends to report tech issues, and while one tech guy had me on hold (or so he thought), I heard a loud chuckle out of the background from another techie saying “it must be a hacker!”. Personally, I never bought the hacker bullshit, but it seemed noone wanted to set the record straight, so the girls all just lapped it up.

Indeed, we’re all affected by what happens in the U.S. because we rely on them so heavily. I can safely say that 80-90% of my customers are American. You don’t have to be a site owner to be burdened with chargebacks/refunds due to fraud (iFriends tacks that onto their hosts who earn a generous 50%). I don’t think for a second that it isn’t included in the 65% I give Streamate and that’s still a very generous take. These guys are not in business to do us any favors. They’re in it to make money and you can be damn tootin’ that what they’re doing. In accordance with our earnings, we certainly do incur losses, on a much smaller scale of course.

I don’t believe for a second that cam shows are starting to lose their appeal or that men are suddenly have lost interest in live naked women. There is more money in having our content (especially videos) on 100 sites (royalty-free, basically meaning without having to pay us our share) than one simple show with 65% (the site’s cut, for example) from each member that joins in. They have to give up too much, but without us, they have no content. So, they keep it afloat with just enough traffic (food) to keep us alive. You think they wouldn’t do that? They are so clean and so honest. I’m not sure what you have seen of this industry, but do you really, truly believe that this can’t be happening? Why then are there a whole slew of new camsites hiding under monikers and reneging on payments to their performers? Fly-by-night sites. Why do sites give ‘newbie’ preferrential treatment (top spots to promote them) and then have the shittiest of customer service, never getting back to you when you are having trouble signing in a session? Nothing done about the harrassment you reported happening in your room, on multiple occasions? No advancements in video cam programming to keep updated with the latest Adobe Flash Encoder? Why can’t we see what time the member entered the room, in our stats page? We can see what time he left, how long the session was but not what time he entered. I asked that question on 3 separate occasions and on 3 separate platforms. Never got a response. Free traffic from dating sites and whitelabels is what it looks like is left, for me anyway (and I’ve seen others say similar things). Basically, tablescraps. Am I so wrong to assume they would feed the ones that make them the most money in videos for sale on other sites? Make them happy enough to keep producing. I want to know who owns those sites that have my videos up, especially that 9 minute one. The only way is to go through legal channels and that costs a shitload of money if you’re Canadian and with the money that these sites have, they’d just lawyer up and tie it all up in litigation until I’m down to my last penny. Literally. It’s a lose-lose situation.

I think we need to, as a group, re-claim ownership of our industry by taking down the scum who are destroying it.
I’d love to hear what you and hubby have discovered through your extensive research on creating a website, though we already know that it isn’t worth it for us, and there are several reasons for that. There’s another big factor to consider; in opening a camsite, you should be fully aware of who you are dealing with and know that you will be stepping on some toes. You have to be very careful of where you step. These boys don’t play clean.

In a nutshell, if it were that easy to get a site going, yes, of course everyone would be doing it.

I hope to see you at the meeting Joy but know that I will be putting major focus on this particular issue.

          Hi Amanda,

Thanks for spelling out the issue with videos being pirated. That’s truly mortifying, having a private show posted up in public, and then adding injury to the insult by not paying you. Holy smokes! As I said in one of my prior replies, so far video pirating hasn’t been one of my issues. Probably because I’m a small time mature newbie (sounds like an oxymoron, LOL) on the webcamming scene. As you’ve said, you’ve been doing this since the late Y2K, so you have a bigger following (I also note you’ve got a lot of profiles on porn site registries, whether you filled them out or someone else did). Just like mainstream movie stars, the paparazzi goes after the popular people, not the never heard of’s. Guess being old has it’s benefits, LOL.

My first reply was to tell anyone reading your post my opinions, so I don’t have to say a word on your call. Anyone who’s going to be at the meeting has probably been over here first.

I don’t have anything to add on the video pirating issue, so I’ll probably be very quiet and just listen.

Have a great week. See you Wednesday.

PS: When I Googled as you suggested, I saw a pirated 12min Gold show, at least I assume it was a Gold show because you were talking about the time being up. Obviously taken during a paying show. Scary!

Oooos! In prior reply I meant to say you’ve been camming since about Y2K. Can’t seem to edit it.

          Amanda,
I hope your (not you’re) meeting went well.
I was reading your post and a couple things spoke to me. I’m really just an uninformed consumer, but I thought you might want the two cents from the other side of the fence.
One thing that I’m noticing is that a lot of cammers aren’t really treating what they are doing like a business. There seems to be the employee mentality on most. I can point out a couple things that I’ve seen on this.
First of all, I can see a lot of complacency on image and trademark. I do agree with Joy that it shouldn’t be up for web hosting companies to monitor content. That can generate a larger and sticker issue. However, the images of any cam personality shouldn’t (and legally can’t) be posted on other sites. I honestly can’t see anyone working in your industry that isn’t under an LLC (American). For anyone that is working their own business and isn’t under one is inviting theft and trademark infringement. I can’t believe most countries don’t have some form of business structure that can be utilized. That should be enough for legal action to take place. For the Americans, I do know that sole proprietor is the weakest of options of the LLC, S and C type that has legal action because of the smallest corporate veil. I remember reading about Melissa Midwest (used to have such a crush on her) got in trouble with another woman because she used a prop too harshly. If using an LLC the only legal action will be on the business and not the person. I’m no legal expert and it is just an opinion. Also, I would note that it is like 80$ here in Michigan.
Secondly, I do think that a lot of cammers assume they know their market. However, in my short time in the industry I’ve seen people smoking a pipe, on a very personal phone call to someone else; get unjustly mad at someone for a misunderstanding of their comment and texting. No matter what, this is a service industry. I can understand the frustration from the client end. Not that I don’t see the opposite true with very mean people making comments. However, it is a service industry and it is to be expected. I’ve worked the service industry for over ten years and I’ve gotten yelled just because I answered the phone. However, I do think that the cammers are spoon fed a lot of comments because the clients think that will get them in good with the cammer. If those are your only clients and source of income their comments count. However, everyone’s opinion matters. Some just matter less when they aren’t meant to help. I just don’t think a true understanding of the market is happening. I have seen sites out there that have pseudo polls that would start to get an idea. However, it does go back to the first point that it isn’t being treated like a business.
Third, I can understand Pete’s (Joy’s BF) position. It would be a logistical nightmare to get your own site up and running. However, I don’t understand how it can’t make money. I see three sub points on this. One, the prices is so varied on the websites that people are in effect shifting the jobs overseas. I’ve seen Russian women do a gold show for a dollar for five minutes. I can’t see the people as much to know if that brings a subset of the market, but I do know for some men that want to just do their thing one dollar is easier than five to sustain a hard on. Secondly, loyal customers will go where their market goes. The people that do maintain an image and have a following will go to the new site. If the site can claim exclusivity, that would go a long way to the performers. With a business mentality, legal support can be applied. All that you would need is someone to research images and usually the threat of legal action. The next thing is you will drive down the market of the other cam sites. They are probably having a hard time on their own with licensing and sharing the profits since it looks like there are sites that just change the image around the camera and call it their own. I didn’t know about streamate, but I can find everyone on xhamser’s cams. I’m sure those aren’t the only ones. Each of those sites are in competition for each other. Thus, that drives the price down. The real overhead that they have is in part you. Hence, your profits go down. I have a lot more to talk about with that, but I’m starting to type too much. I’d honestly be getting close to a business plan than anything else. The trick is to offer something different in the market place. Also, who is your market? For instance, I don’t like a lot of the music playing. My age and fiscal status indicate what type of music I generally like. However, I can’t understand all that is coming out of the speakers through the cam. Well, now I’m just acting old…
Anyways, that is just my two cents. I got more to say, but I doubt anyone would read this much.

Joy, your comments are always spot-on… I agree with everything you said.

And thx for mentioning me on twitter all the time, btw! I have yet to figure out the biz benefits of the twitter beast. I’m dumb or something. I don’t think ive ever gotten a signup from there.

Hi Jessie, so good to see you read Amanda’s blog too! I hope you’ll have time to be at the meeting.

Even though I rambled on about Amanda’s meeting points, and sounded more than negative about starting up our own site, I have researched how to produce our own fan club shows independently, so I can share information on that on the call.

There’s a guy who has been doing his own ‘straight’ masturbation shows for his paying members. From what I’ve seen he has a huge following, even having gotten other guys into his cam site. And, as for the value of Twitter, I found his product, St8cam Lube on there. He’s formulated a lube to look like cum, which he now has film crews using it on movies, selling it online and in stores. He’s been one of my twitter peeps for a long time. His Twitter profile lead me to his camming site…. and DM-ing him about how he put his billing and streaming together to produce his own shows. Actually he doesn’t bill for individual shows, instead he charges a monthly re-billing charge ($29?) and just does a couple shows a week at set times. But even that is a lot of work (less than trying to run a webcam empire tho, hee hee). But everyone has a different vision for their business and maybe having their own shows is where they want to go. Creating a website, producing fan club shows is a great way to go for the more ambitious models. Doesn’t Catherine Tayler do that now, from her membership fan club? She’d be a wealth of knowledge on the topic.

I find Twitter to be like a trip down the rabbit hole (Alice’s =) You start with one strange thing, follow it along, and who also follows along, and before you know it you found something profoundly important you wouldn’t have known before. Admittedly, most of the time it just seems like a whole lot of work for nothing =p

I’m unsure that I’ve gained any new SM members from Twitter. I haven’t had any new 20%’s showing up on my pay stats. The main thing I do is use Twitter like you do, to Tweet that I’m signing on to SM. A funny or titillating message about what I’ve got going on in that session. I compose the message but wait to send it until I’m already up and running for a few minutes, so that when a guy clicks on the link it will be sure to take him to me live, which may inspire him to sign on and spank the monkey with me. hee hee I have notice that seems to boost arrivals into my shows. I have even had guys DM me saying they look forward to my clever tweets (and, more than likely, watching from the free portal without signing on).

One of the reasons I don’t think Twitter is a great place to find new viewers is that most of all our friends know the same guys, and they are already signed up, or have been in the past. I know I’ve had Twitter followers come check me out, maybe even have taken shows with me. Guys do tweet me about shows, so I guess that’s something. Overall, tweeting is just keeping my presence out there, for good or ill.

Wow! Again a huge long reply. I type as fast as I think and it just gets away from me. =p

Hope to see you on Amanda’s Wednesday meeting.
        Have a great weekend.

I’m picking up what you’re putting down. This is good stuff and I am glad you are thinking along these lines.
